Storytelling through Sculpture with Russ Ford

$325.00

This 4-session class will be taught by Russ Ford, local sculptor and twice recipient of Washington Art Educator of the year award. It is designed for participants who wish to tell a personal story through the creation of a tableau of clay figures or figurines. We all have stories that are precious and meaningful to us. Working to develop these into a visible narrative creates a lasting artifact that can be shared by many. The objective is to develop these stories employing the elements of figurative sculpture bringing your character(s) to life.

  • Session 1- November 8, 2pm-5pm. Come with an idea (sketch, photo, video) and we will create a workable model that incorporates essential elements of the story. This session will include a lesson on body proportions and scale. You will then create the tableau framework by developing sculptural armatures.

  • Session 2-November 15, 2-5pm. This session will be focused on finalizing the tableau, and covering armatures with clay. This begins the additive and subtractive process of clay sculpture that will continue through completion.

  • Session 3-November 22, 2-5pm. Studio work time. Problem solving guided instruction.

  • Session 4- November 29, 2-5pm. This work session will bring the adventure to a close. Options concerning glazing, firing and other finishing techniques will be discussed and implemented.
