Get a handle on handbuilding!
Whether you’ve never touched clay before or you’re an experienced potter looking to expand beyond the wheel, this class welcomes all levels of makers and creatives.
Join Janelle for a hands-on exploration of the many possibilities of handbuilding. We’ll learn foundational techniques like slab building, pinch pots, and coil building while exploring how these methods can be used to create both functional pottery and sculptural work. You’ll have plenty of time to experiment, develop your ideas, and create pieces that are uniquely your own.
All finished work will be fired to Cone 10 reduction in Kadence’s beautiful gas-fired kiln, giving your pieces the depth and character of a high-fire reduction firing.
On our final day, we’ll celebrate everything we’ve made! We’ll photograph your finished work and learn some simple tips for documenting your ceramics and beginning to build an artist portfolio.

Janelle Kinsey is a local ceramicist, sculptor and painter. With over a decade of hands-on ceramics experience and a B.A. in Ceramic Art from ASU, her knowledge and passion for clay seeps into everything she does. She shows up in the studio with enthusiasm to bring out people's creative talents, and believes that art should be for everyone.
